Homeschool Room Tour

Welcome to our happy place! Today I am sharing the playroom/homeschool/totschool room. This is the room where the boys and I spend 95% of our time. Let me start by saying this room will never be finished; it changes almost daily actually. We need a new rug, and I need to update pictures, but that is the beauty of it! It changes as we do. I am also a firm believer in rotating toys/books/activities, so those things might look different on any given day as well. I have this room broken up into four parts; sensory exploration, reading rug, homeschool area, and play/toy area.

HOMECHOOL AREA

My husband did the DIY chalkboard by using chalkboard paint and trim we had left over that we stained. I display all Graham's crafts and work above the chalkboard with the Fintorp Rail & Hooks from IKEA. For homeschool storage I use the Mainstay 9 Cube organizer from Walmart. On the very top I have our diffuser/oils we use daily and a thrifted basket that holds his homeschool curriculum, his work for that week, plus a few other supplemental activities. On the top cubes I store our "Alphatales" books that have a story to go along with each letter, a bin that I keep all of my things in (pens, stapler, etc.), and then some of our Usborne Books & More books! On the second set of cubes I have a puzzle, another bin that holds my things (Bible, Bible Study), and the Grimm's Wooden Cave Arch. The bottom set of cubes get changed out often, but right now we have a Melissa & Doug letter activity, a Lakeshore bug specification kit, & another Usborne Books & More Activity.

PLAY/TOY AREA

For toy storage, we use the IKEA Kallax Organizer. I also have 4 woven baskets from IKEA to keep some of the toys hidden. On top we have an abacus, paper dispenser, our prayer plant, and a beautiful hand-crafted alphabet board from JennifersTreasures on Etsy! On the first set of cubes we have some more Grimms wooden toys, UBAM books, & a new magnet activity my son just received for his birthday! On the bottom shelf, in the baskets we have trains, Magna-tiles, Legos, & some Grimms stacking/building blocks. On the wall we also have a rack with some costumes my boys can use for dramatic play! Above that I have another wall mount rod to display Graham's work.

SENSORY EXPLORATION

I change out Graham's sensory bins once a week with whatever letter we are working on. I keep beans in it for the most part, and then bury things in them for him to find. I also have some measuring cups and a bowl there for him to play with. The table and bins are from IKEA. I have a display board above his table where I keep the letter we are working on displayed.

READING RUG

This is probably my favorite and most used area! My 6 month old hangs out here and plays in his basket of toys, and Graham comes here to do his activities and read books. We also try to have some sort of a "circle time" here everyday where we read a bible story, pray, & read a few books. I use the picture ledges from IKEA to display books, which I have changed out for Fall right now! My husband created our calendar. And the only seating we have in the room right now is Graham's chair from Pottery Barn Kids, that we all fight over to sit in! I also keep a basket of blankets in this area.

So there you have it! We love this space, and I am sure it will continue to change as the boys grow & we prepare for actual Homeschool. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will get back with you!
